Description: Aldrich Ames' Signal Site
The first in a series of Washington, DC area espionage-related virtual caches, this cache is the US Mail Box that the KGB marked with tape to signal Aldrich Ames that they had recovered the material he left for them in a dead drop (like a geocache for spies). When the FBI was surveilling Ames to gather evidence that he was spying, they watched him drive slowly past this mailbox with his wife after attending a school program of his son's in Virginia. People in the area thought the marks were graffiti made by students at the school on the other side of the street. Your mark is located on the pick-up label next to the mail slot. To log this cache, you need to enter the number that's listed in the "Location ID" block which can be found on the lower right part of the label. |
