Multiple independent wind farms follow the Allegheny Front as it passes through Cambria County and beyond. While another cache near Beaverdale highlights windmills developed on reclaimed strip mined ground, the Patton Wind Farm’s 15 units, operated by Everpower, are primarily distributed across, and in compliment with, agricultural lands.
This cache is placed at a public observation area adjacent to the Everpower office and PA Route 36 and provides an easily accessible overlook of the turbines operating across the farmland. Several information kiosks adjacent to the pavilion present background of the development and operation of the wind farm.
With the limited operation schedule availability of our nearby Seldom Seen Cache (Have you “Seen” it?), we wanted to have another close by so you don’t come up empty handed if you travel up to the area.
This is Featured Cache #39 of the Greater Johnstown/Cambria County Geotrail, which highlights the scenic and historic amenities of the area. Be sure to collect and record the Geotrail Code Word from in (or near, in the case of micros) the cache to your official Geotrail Passport, which can be obtained from the Convention and Visitor’s Bureau. A map and list of all caches featured in the Geotrail can be found at Geotrail page.
GPSGames offers an alternative
geocache listing platform. Coordinates are visible even without an
account, but you will need an account to log here before they are possibly
cross listed to GC. GPSGames displays other
caches that may not already be cross listed. If you are not the listed
owner of one of these caches, we strongly discourage you from posting your own
listing at or near their coordinates.
Attendees of the Geotrail launch event were given the advanced release of
this cache listing, so the FTF is probably already entered in the logbook.
