UTM


As a federal law enforcement officer, I have noted that alot of our tactical (velcro ripers/SWAT) guys, who are former military types, like UTM for its similarity to the MGRS (Military Grid Reference Sys) Most of you probably know that they are both in meters and that the Vietnam movie terms we hear......."6 clicks" north represents 6000 meters or 6 Kms. I know they also like UTM because of the 1k grids that most Topos are marked with. At first, UTM was very confusing to me, not being a velcro riper, but the more I use it, the more I like it when a reference has to be made to a paper map used in the field...
