FWIW, I like the idea of a rec.gps.* hierarchy of newsgroups, but what about the existing group: sci.geo.satellite-nav? This group seems to be the default "gps" group currently.

This is an informal Request For Discussion (RFD) for the creation of world-wide unmoderated Usenet newsgroup rec.geocaching
I'm open to other naming suggestions like rec.gps.stashhunt
Which might have the advantage of including similar sport/hobbies in the hierarchy. ie. rec.gps.confluence
I'll have to write up something formal and submit it to the following groups for approval and discussion.
news.announce.newgroups news.groups
I have over 300 posts on the Groundspeak forums, so this isn't a case where I want to change things without giving what's available a try.
I very much prefer a the text based medium of usenet to the web based boards on Navicache and Groundspeak.
This not only allows me to read and respond while offline (as I am with this message) but to easily archive for portability when desired.
If I am alone in this, I won't submit a request to the above listed groups.
Please feel free to contact me with any concerns or questions. Choberiba / Eric O'Connor geo@cachestash.com (510) 543-8836
