James said: "rate the environmental sensitivity of the site"
This is by far the most sensible solution I have seen yet. I too believe most cachers are very concerned about the environment and if made aware of a sensitive situation will respect it. I personally have not seen any environmental damage at any cache I have visited yet. If this was to get to the point that some of you seem to think it has or will I don't think the cache would even survive based on the fact that it certainly wouldn't be a challenge if there was a foot deep trail/rut right to the cache. What the heck would you need a gps for? Follow the rut. Not going to happen.
