I used my Etrex this past weekend in a national forest in Arkansas, and while the tree cover does hamper things a bit - I was able to make good use of the features I wanted to use the majority of the time - Personally - I am very happy with my unit... There are certainly other units that will preform beautifully for you - in the city, or in the desert, or in the forest, so which ever one you choose, I am sure it'll be a great one for your needs - Have fun - (pretty cool too when you're in an airplane to see your altitude, x miles per hour, etc...)
