Wayne I recently purchased the Garman 60CXS. i HAVE TO SAY THIS IS AN EXCELLENT GPS, However if you do not require the Altimiter or the Barametric Pressure options then go with the next step down. I have this and will never use it. As for battery life I use Energizer{AA} WITH A 2500MAH and I am getting excellent battery life from these as well they are rechargable. The mha is the strenght of the battery and the higher the better. Overall I am impressed with the Garmin and the mapping detail is not always exact you can compensate for the as I use topo maps as well. Hope this is a help. Happy Geocaching. From Newfoundland canada Coordinates are as follow N 47 44.646 W 053 13.438
